Hello all. I've never actually posted here before. I'm just... well, having a little freak out right now because I found out today that I have to have surgery next week. on my spine. scary stuff.

I have a prolapsed disc, basically whats commonly known as a slipped disc, pressing on my sciatic nerve. sounds like something that happens to old people right? well Im 27, I dont think Im that old, although might be older than a lot of people here LOL

I'm not sure why Im posting, just need to vent I guess I'e been told its pretty low risk but for someone who's never so much as broken a bone, or had surgery of any kind, its pretty terrifying. Sad I also have 2 daughters to look after so its pretty hard being basically a cripple right now, and trying to sort them out.

um, thats about all. anyone got their own experiences they want to talk about feel free.

You will be fine - its more common than you think. Good idea is to do some research online about it. Gives you an idea of what to expect (other than what the doc has already told you).
Just recently I was given a choice between surgery and radioactive iodene for my thyroids. I choose the latter due to my crazy phobia of needles.
Good luck with it tho - you will be fine.

It is scarey! And you probably don't want to keep hearing that 'you'll be fine' but you will!
Just be prepared for after the surgery - make sure you get home help in place - either via ACC or the hospital, to help with house work, child care etc, it should be free, that will take alot of stress off, so that you can concentrate on getting back on your feet! All the best! Smile
